As-Built Modeling Services utilizes a Leica Phase Base Scanner, which performs a 360 degree in the horizontal by 310 degree in the vertical scan. After walking down the facility, targets are setup for registration and geo-referencing. These targets can be surveyed by traditional survey and/or GPS equipment. Laser Scanning is done fast, accurate and efficient, developing a 3-D image (point cloud) of grade, foundation, equipment, piping, steel, conduit, instrumentation and other features.

Creating Point Cloud
After scanning, the scanworlds are registered together by using the targets, point to point registration, and/or feature registration creating a single point cloud. Geo-referencing then takes place by setting a coordinate system (GPS or Plant Coordinates) to the point cloud. Unification removes duplicate points to keep the point cloud small and production high
Point Cloud From Scanner
After delivering the pint cloud, bring the point cloud into AutoCAD using Leica Cloudworx. The point cloud will show existing obstructions such as pipe, steel, equipment and other features. Coordinates and elevations can be queried from the point cloud to show open areas and obstructions. Using an AutoCAD 3D Cad package, new design work can be performed through the point cloud. The point cloud can be published and viewed by anyone associated with the profect, by using the free TruView Viewer. The point cloud can also be used in PDMS, PDS, and AVEVA.
